Family Values Talk Radio host Dr Laura Schlessinger, simply known as Dr Laura, should have been counseling her own son instead of giving advice to the hundreds of people that phone in each week to her radio show. The 21 year old solder, Deryk Schlessinger, who was deployed this year to Afghanistan, is under investigation for his lurid MySpace page depicting cartoons of rape, child molestation, torture, murder, racial obscenities and a photo of a bound and blindfolded detainee with the comment, 'My Sweet Little Habib' under it.
In his own words, Schlessinger describes his job.
"Yes . . . F---ING Yes!!! I LOVE MY JOB, it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it . . . and some that don't." Dr Laura’s spokesman suggested it was a fake page.
And of course, Army spokesman Robert Tallman issued a statement, "it may be possible that our enemies are actually behind this."
Funny how The Pentagon shut down all access world wide on its computers to video blogs like You Tube, and social networking sites, including MySpace, following this case. The official statement is, it’s for security, but some skeptics believe it is to stifle the public’s awareness of how deployed US troops are feeling and thinking.
It’s also strange that the story has gone dead. This came out 2 months ago and yet the public has not been informed on any developments.
Dr Laura continues on with her counseling across the country, In an interview with The Tribune, she said, "We raised our son to be a warrior."
To the wives of deployed troops she said, "He could come back without arms, legs or eyeballs, and you're bitching? You're not dodging bullets, so I don't want to hear any whining."
Hmmm imagine growing up in that household.

Thank you for your comment Nicole and the link to Brain Maloney’s article.
As the saying goes: A picture says a thousand words.
Does that look like a level headed young man to you?
.
Being a wife of a United States Marine I am shocked by Dr Laura’s son’s behavior, but I have in no way tried to discredit the work she has done to raise awareness for the California non-profit ‘Operation Family Fund’ set up to help support military families.
The story of her son’s revolting website went public on May 23 (and has since gone underground), breaking news of her award comes merely 2 months later. Do you really believe that the DOD (Department of Defense) isn’t capable of manipulating such situations to benefit themselves? The last thing they would want is for this scandal involving her son to paint US troops in an unfavorable light. That doesn’t help the deployed troops, the families at home, the US government, or the DOD. So why not give his mother an award to deflect attention away from the matter at hand? Just because Dr Laura gets ‘The Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service’ it hardly means we should pardon or ignore her son’s conduct. If that were the case, then the criminals of this world would have a field day in court.
“But Judge, I have a really nice mom, she does so much for the community I terrorized, so how about cutting me some slack?”
An investigation should still be carried out regarding Deryk Schlessinger behavior. For starters a mental evaluation should be done, because if any of his statements on his personal MySpace profile are true, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near a loaded gun. Again, look at his photo. Of course it’s all very convenient that the MySpace account in question no longer exists. Every computer has its own IP address, a calling card it leaves behind. No Profile, no records, no IP address. So tell me, how will the DOD be able to authenticate any of this? Ahh yes, they’ll give his mom a medal and hope to God it all blows over.

‘The Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service’ is an award established to recognize non-career Federal employees, private citizens and foreign nationals for their contribution, assistance or support of activities for the U.S. Armed Services.
