Shack
Shack, the Liverpool band fronted by brothers Mick and John Head, has a had crazy history leading to some legend. Most of the tapes for their disk Waterpistol were lost when the studio they recorded in burned down. The remaining DAT tape was with the producer who was in LA. When he got back it turns out he’d left it in his rent-a-car. A crazy search ensued until it was found. But then their label had gone under. It finally got released but Mick’s continuing heroin problems kept the band from hitting any kind of stride. Their disk HMS Fable is considered one of the best British rock disks of the last few decades, and their latest, Corner of Miles and Gil (named after their heroes Miles Davis and Gil Evans) was released on the label owned by huge fan Noel Gallagher of Oasis. It’s a great disk, and "Cup of Tea" from that disk captures the essence of the band with its psychedelic acoustic sound, Head’s warm vocals and winding lyrics. The video is fantastic! The guy you see in black and white in lab coat and wire-rimmed glasses is Albert Hoffman who stumbled upon LSD accidentally in a Swiss lab in the 40s. Gives you an idea of what’s going on in the song.
