Mozilla set out to set a record for 24 hour downloads of their new Firefox 3.0.  Ten hours after the gun went off Firefox downloads were over 5 million.  That's a lot of downloading.

But prior to this event there had been reports of Firefox gaining on Microsoft's IE.  Not just Firefox, Safari and Opera are also gaining ground on the one time clear leader of the pack.

But rather than take the word of others, I decided to take a look at the "browser statistics" for morninpaper.  As you can see in the graph above, since moving here last month,  folks are viewing with Firefox at close to the same rate as with IE.  MSIE is still in the number one slot, but Firefox is close behind with Safari bringing in the 3rd slot.

So if this is any indication, those statistics seem to have some fact behind them.
