I would expect this from the likes of AT&T, but DirecTV?  No not DirecTV.  Seems those advocates for the blocking of HD recordings before they are released on DVD just got two fairly large proponents.  As discussed here on MP, the Motion Picture Association of America wants to stop you from using the expensive box you rent from recording any stream in HD before it is released on DVD.  Seems logical, but it also seems to violate your right (if there is even one) to program your DVR to take advantage of all that it offers.

The petition is also a bit silly because rarely does a film broadcast on television before it goes to DVD sales.  There is something else at work here, I just haven’t figured it out yet.  When DirecTV is willing to back a plan that tells it’s users you can’t record, and aligns itself with AT&T, there is more than meets the eye.
