Iran hanged 29 people at dawn on Sunday after they had been convicted of rape, armed robbery, murder, drug trafficking and other crimes. All were hanged inside Evin prison, north of the capital.

150 people have been executed in Iran so far this year, and International human rights groups have accused Iran of making excessive use of the death penalty, hmmmmmm, well, the US have executed 15 so far this year .....

Capitol punishment is still in practice in a number of countries across the world, and different cultures have different perspectives on what makes a crime punishable by death.

Who are we to judge, many states in the US still believe in it.

Is the electric chair any less barbaric than a noose?

Earlier this month in Iran authorities sentenced 8 women and 1 man convicted of adultery to death by stoning.

Now that’s a barbaric way to die. I couldn’t watch an animal being stoned to death (and oddly enough I had the opportunity in a religious ritual in India), let alone a human. Even though I am pro capital punishment (an essay unto itself), I believe that we should not stoop to the level of the criminal.

Here’s a frightening thought. If our society dictated adultery as punishable by death, we’d have a serious over crowding problem on death row, and our deaths per year would increase just to keep the system manageable.....
