I've said it here many times before, this is the one thing I have been afraid of when it comes to Apple rising from its quiet little place in the market. Mac users have never really had to be too concerned with spyware, virus's and hackers, those were for the most part left to PC users to deal with. We Mac users just go about our daily computer activities with a since of calm content peacefulness.
But, now the Macs are beginning to take a strong placing in the worldwide PC marketplace, and with the success of the iPhone, iPod and iPod Touch, Apple products and the MacOSX are starting to get much more attention from those who seek to do nothing positive in this world. The same sort of evil that spread among PC users, is now beginning to infiltrate Mac users.
"There are more eyes looking over Apple products for vulnerabilities," Hotchkies told AFP at a notorious annual DefCon gathering of hackers in Las Vegas.
"It has slowly been growing as a target people are more and more interested in."
Of course this has a lot to do with the fact that a Mac can now run any Microsoft OS. So those virus made for PC can now be re-worked a bit and targeted at the OSX core through the Windows operating system that is running on the Mac.
"Windows developers take their code and make it work on Apple," Hotchkies said. "They could take potential vulnerabilities with them or possibly create new ones because they are working on an entirely different platform."
Apple is working very hard to ensure (impossible in my view) that Mac owners continue to work without fear of the new daily virus.
