If you haven't heard yet, the music industry absolutely sucks nowadays.  Sure it was bad when just a few wealthy and powerful people owned the only four record companies on the planet, but at least it gave us great music, and the musicians had a chance to make a living.  Of course they smoked it all up, but that's another story.

The state of affairs in the industry has hit a all time low, but if you're game, there's a way you can help your favorite band make the music you want to hear.

A web site that is backed by execs., responsible for acts like Kaiser Chiefs and Primal Scream, has come up with a very good idea, buy stock in your favorite band.

Bandstocks.com lets you purchase stock in increments of 10 pounds, which is $18 at the moment.  When your band's stock hits a certain level the funds get released to the band to help them record their next album.  The investment will also get you:

Credit on the CD sleeve
Percentage of the profits from its sale and licensing
Priority ticket booking
Opportunity to buy limited edition releases

This is a really good idea and may go a long way to help bands pave their own way.  Then again, it could also put a ton of folks in what they perceive as the "driver seat", thinking they have a say in the creative process, which has always been the problem with recording and record labels.
