Researchers at the University of Toronto found that when study subjects were asked to summon a memory of social rejection, they felt that the room was 5 degrees cooler than those in the accepted group. And in a follow-up experiment, snubbed volunteers craved hot fare like soup. That’s because a brain region called the insular cortex tracks social perceptions and sensations of warmth and cold. So make sure you have a good friendship with someone. It will make you feel warmer inside.
