Mtv, the network that put a gun to the head of music and pulled the trigger, has announced that the station will start playing actual music videos again.  The station called “MTV, Music television” has to makes announcement about playing actual music on it.  Oh the irony.

From 3 to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, MTV will show some music videos, some music news, some music interviews and some musical performances.  All this takes place when no one is really watching, 3am to 9 am.  Then it’s back to various shows based off “Girls Gone Wild.”

Critics of MTV say that its music brand is all but irrelevant now, since countless music videos and songs are only a click away on YouTube and other Web sites. The network canceled “TRL,” its long-running video countdown, last fall after years of sagging ratings. Mr. Friedman acknowledged that music had not always drawn “the level of viewership we hope for,” but nonetheless he said, “we know our audience wants more of it.”
