I have heard nothing but bad things about Transformers, so since I didn’t like the first one, I’ve stayed clear of the second.  But it comes as no surprise to me that the mighty would fall in it’s second week out, and to Dinosaurs no less.  Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs claimed a total of $67.5M since it’s opening, which includes $42.5M over the weekend.  Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen also took in $42.5M over the weekend but with Ice Age’s total of $67M since Wednesday, in my mind that breaks the tie since Transformers also opened on a Wednesday and benefited from the extra days leading into it’s opening weekend.
The Johnny Depp, Christian Bale flick, Public Enemies opened in the 3rd spot which isn’t bad when you consider what it was up against.  Special Effects will trump great acting and storytelling every time.  Public Enemies bowed in with a $26.2M weekend haul and a 5 day $41M total.
Two older movies hung in the top five with The Proposal coming in 4th with $12.8M, and The Hangover coming in 5th with $10.4M.
It will be interesting to see who survives the Bruno onslaught next week.
