Longtime readers of MP know that I am not a fan of the Windows Mobile OS. However, that didn’t stop me from grabbing the HTC Touch Diamond. I think TouchFlo is great and HTC went a long way to make WM a more fun OS to use, but not fun enough. Definitely not enough to tear me away from my Blackberries or even the Palm Pre. But I have been trying out a few apps that allow WinMo users the ability to change the way the OS looks and operates, in hopes of finding one that will make the experience of picking up the HTC a more pleasurable one. First up: Panoramic Call Genius

Panoramic Call Genius is a brand new app for WinMo that gives users more control over calls. But the app does much, much more than that. The first thing you will notice is how nice your WM device looks. PCG takes over and provides a look that is more close to what’s going on with other new OS platforms.

PCG provides users with a new Today screen that is customizable and nice to look at. Add apps or just about anything else to your Today screen for quick and easy access. But PCG is first and foremost an app for the phone portion of your device. There are some great features like “cheek guard.” If you own a HTC, then you know just how much this is needed. I love the fact that the cheek guard applies as soon as I answer the phone, stopping my ears and cheeks from hitting buttons and opening all sorts of programs.

PCG also takes over the native sms app and gives users a very nice looking UI when reading and sending text. All the features work as advertised, but I would recommend Panoramic Call Genius simply because it takes WinMo out of the 90′s and brings it into the 2000′s.

There is a free trial so give it a good run through before you purchase.

Never wonder where someone is calling from again. Panoramic Call Genius displays the location of the number calling you and allows you to set custom calling rules or to block annoying callers.
