Good news fans of Polaroid! The camera and film that had been discontinued never to be seen or heard from again, will be back in 2010. The one-step camera will soon be in checkout lines at your neighborhood Wal-Mart.
If you have never had the pleasure of taking photos with a Polaroid, then you’re in luck. If you’re a fan of aged photos, then you’re in luck. There is nothing like a picture snapped by a Polaroid camera, and it was a sad day when word hit that there would be no more. Luckily I have held on to two, including a vintage one from the 60′s. Too bad flash bulbs for it match a down payment on a brand new car.
There will be two versions of the new Polaroid. The classic, and a digital version. However, Digital and Polaroid are almost a oxymoron.
After all the difficulties and changes of ownership during the last years, the new management of Polaroid now understands the source of the brand’s attraction – which is surprisingly not based in digital cameras but in Dr. Edwin Land’s groundbreaking 1948 invention of Instant Photography, which he ingeniously devised and passionately developed with a lot of care and devotion.
Now there’s even more to look forward to in 2010. But then, there’s 2012. Bummer.
