QUESTION: Have you been looking at a few Bluetooth Stereo headsets, wondering if they really work and are worth the money? I thought so, so let me answer that for you. If you’ve been looking at the Motorola MOTOROKR S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, then the ANSWER is yes, and yes.
HARDWARE
I’ve had the pleasure of using the headphones for a few weeks now and I have to say, this is affordable technology at it’s finest. I’ve never been too keen on headsets that wrap around the back of the neck/head, because I have always found them to be uncomfortable. But I was pleasantly surprised when I popped these around and placed them on my ears. Motorola did an excellent job at making the plastic flexible and soft, while sturdy enough to sit still and not slide around or up and down with head movement.
The Volume Buttons take a little to get used to. Up and Down are placed on the top of the RIGHT ear piece, a very small distance away from the Power Button – and the AC charging port. The right headphone is also where the music controls are located, the entire outside of the piece controls “forward/reverse/pause/stop/play.” But once you remember where they are placed, they are easy to find and very responsive, meaning I don’t have to push too hard to get the desired response.
The MICROPHONE is exactly where you would expect it to be, pointed directly at the mouth.
The ear cushions are what you would expect from an headset, soft and comfortable. But what you may not expect is the sound quality that these headsets deliver.
VOICE CALL SOUND
Bluetooth can be a hit or miss proposition when it comes to sound quality and available distance strength. As a general rule, you need to spend between $80-$100 to get superior call quality and range on a single ear Bluetooth headset. So it’s hard to imagine that a STEREO BLUETOOTH headset is going to deliver in that area and with MP3′s traveling from your device to the headset. The MOTOROKR S305 truly delivers both with a $50 price tag.
First I tested ‘Call quality.’ I called a few friends and had them call me. Not one friend has had any difficulty hearing me, even with my car stereo or television on in the background. Both my voice and their voice’s are clear and audible. Noise cancelation seems to be excellent. It takes a moment to get used to hearing your friends in stereo, but once that moment is gone, you’ll have a hard time going back to a single ear piece.

MUSIC
Wow! That’s about the best way that I can describe the playback ability of the MOTOROKR S305. There is no bass or treble control on this headset, so one may feel a bit worried about the sound of their loaded MP3′s. Okay, that’s what I was worried about. To my surprise I had no need for concern. Bass response is fantastic, which for me is extremely important, particularly if I have no control over it. Since my taste covers just about everything, I’ve enjoyed Elvis Costello, Miles Davis, Led Zeppelin, Mozart, P-Funk, The Dead Kennedy’s on and on. Each track sounds fantastic! The varying styles all come through well without me working the equalization on my device. That for me is a huge plus. No one wants to deal with equalization controls while driving.
*Music Time: Up to 6 hours*
RANGE
Here’s where it gets really good. The MOTOROKR S305 range rocks! I set the device in my bedroom and made it all the way into the office before It began to breakup. That’s through three walls and two doors. Outside, I left the device in the car and walked passed 5 houses, six including my own home. I was also able to mow my lawn with the device on the porch while I moved around. Audio stayed clear and strong, with the volume over coming the sound of the blower (electric).
PAIRING
Okay, here’s is the list of devices I have paired The MOTOROKR S305 with.
Blackberry 8830, 8330, iPhone, iPod Touch, Palm Pre, HTC Touch Diamond, Palm Treo 755p, Centro, Nokia Express Music and HTC Hero. Each device, The MOTOROKR S305 paired quickly and easily.
(Note) The HTC Hero paired the fastest and easiest. So, as far as I can tell, no matter what device or device platform you use the Motorola MOTOROKR S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones are going to work for you.
