If  it were not for the extreme snowy conditions across the country, and the scores of last minute shoppers, Avatar most likely would have brought in much more than the $73 Million the James Cameron film made during it’s opening weekend.  But great reviews, great trailers and the Cameron reputation didn’t stop enough folks from making Avatar the second highest grossing Christmas film behind Will Smith’s  ”I Am Legend.”  Avatar Made $232.2 million worldwide.   The Blind Side hung in and made another $10 Million bringing it’s total to $165 million.  Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, lost the number one spot but only feel to #2, a good outing so far for Disney’s first ever portrayal of a African American Princess.
Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened at #4 with $7 Million. Â Surprisingly, New Moon made another visit to the top five, coming in at number 5 with $4.75 million more to bring it’s domestic total to $275M.
Christmas weekend will see the opening of Sherlock Holmes. Â It will be interesting to see if Avatar can hang on, or be beaten out be Robert Downey Jr.,.
