A bit more interesting news coming out of the world of high finance. After Warren Buffett announced his desire to see the taxes raised on the nations wealthiest, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz chimes in with a shocker of his own.

The chief coffee pusher wants American companies to begin hiring again and spend some of those billions building up in individual company treasuries. If that was not shocking enough, Schultz is calling for a halt on corporate donations to any and every politician, Republican/Democrat, Congressional and Presidential. The CEO wants a freeze on political donations until the government comes to a bipartisan and fair deal on the debt.

Of course the flexing of that muscle would shine a spotlight on the power and influence corporations have on politicians and politics, but it’s entirely possible that a bit of leeway is given in this case. Voices of influence calling on others of influence to loosen the belt and help the country first, is a light I would like to see more of.

Hulu fans and subscribers are about to get a little more than they are used to when it comes to the online streaming service. Hulu will be offering its own original programing, the first of which is with the help of Morgan Spurlock, the maker of “Super Size Me.”

Monday saw the state of Arizona engulfed in yet another massive dust storm like the one that covered the Phoenix area on July 5th.

A dust wall 3,000 feet high and moving at speeds gusting up to 40 mph, moved in to the state, bringing traffic to a stand still and delaying flights.

If you live in southern California, the past two weeks were designed to help prepare you for the worst driving experience to hit the LA area since the collapse of the Santa Monica freeway. Every local news program, sig alerts, freeway signs, newspapers and water cooler conversations were filled with the coming horrors that was to be ‘Carmegeddon 2011′.

From midnight July 16th, to midnight July 17th, a ten mile stretch of probably the busiest, most backed up freeway in the entire United States, was shut down for badly needed repairs. Before the clock struck 12:00, just the thought of it made Angelenos dizzy.

However, some of us could not do what we really wanted to do, stay home. Some of us had to brave the streets and go out. For those who had to go out, they found the greatest driving experience ever, or in at least the past twenty-years. Freeways were empty, streets were empty. On a good day, a commute that would take 15 minutes, was done in 8.

Then, the announcement came that work was going far better than expected and the 405 would open head of schedule, and it did. Traffic on Sunday shot up.

But that Saturday, man what a great day to drive in Los Angeles!

July 8th, 2011. this date will go down in history as being the day the last NASA Space Shuttle will leave the ground and head for the stars. Is it the end of American space flight and exploration? Hardly. Flown in the Shuttle Atlantis, the 12-day mission that began at exactly 11:29 a.m. ET, will stock the Space Station with necessary supplies, and involve two separate space walks.

This last mission will retire the entire shuttle fleet and pave the way for NASA built ships capable of breaking Earths orbit, traveling further into deep space, and returning.

A friend told authorities that Burley was pleased with his fireworks that he intended to set off for the streets fourth of July fireworks fun. The friend claims that after seeing the warning label, he wanted nothing to do with the fireworks that the local ATF are now looking into for legal status.

However, that stated consternation didn’t stop Burley from setting the fireworks in the middle of the street, lighting them, and promptly having his head severed from his body seconds later from the impact of the explosion. The same friend, Chris Hanson, was the first to reach Burley after the explosion and find his body chard and headless.

Portland, Oregon resident Darryl James Swanson, has been arrested by the Secret Service and is now undergoing psych evaluation to determine if he is mentally competent. Darryl Swanson has been sending letters to several different agencies, threatening the life of the President and his family.

The 45-year old man will be arraigned next month, but is being held because he is considered to be a flight risk.

It seems the final straw was after Darryl Swanson left this message on the answering machine of the Seattle AP bureau.

“I may have to get in touch with al-Qaida and get a hold of at least one, possibly two good working machine guns and blast my way into the White House,”

Darryl is angry with the President for not sending him his $70 million check that he claims is his trust fund money set up for him when he was a child.

Friends of the would be assassin say the he is harmless, needs to be kept on his meds and watched.

If you are one of the millions that can actually remember going to see Duran Duran back in the 80′s, then you may remember the feeling that the vocals on stage didn’t match the vocals on the albums. However, much to his credit, Simon Le Bon, worked at it and became a much better singer, gaining control over his vocal cords with strength training. Trying to hit those New Romantic high notes night after night can be a strenuous task, and it looks as though it is still a daunting one for the English singer because the latest Duran Duran tour has been canceled due to it.

Front man Simon Le Bon is having problems with his voice and has been advised to give his vocal cords a rest, effectively ending a tour that was to begin next week and continue on through September.

Responding to cries of “Please, please tell me now” Le Bon, had this to say:

That was the case in Chetumal, Mexico, when a common-law-wife came to visit her convict husband Juan Ramirez Tijerina. Maria del Mar Arjona, had her scheduled conjigal visit with Tijerna, but when they were finished and it was time for her to leave, prison authorities discovered her suitcase was larger and heavier than when she came.

When open, authorities discovered Tijerina naked, laying in a fetal position inside the suitcase.

Bank of America becomes the first and only of the so-called ‘Too big to fail’ institutions to payout for its part in the near collapse of the American economy. The bank has agreed to a settlement of $8.5 billion to be paid out to investors that lost their money in mortgage-backed securities – securities Bofa claimed inheritance of after the purchase of the doomed lender, Countrywide.

“This is another important step we are taking in the interest of our shareholders to minimize the impact of future economic uncertainty and put legacy issues behind us. We will continue to act aggressively, and in the best interest of our shareholders, to clean up the mortgage issues largely stemming from our purchase of Countrywide.”

Bank Of America will post a Q2 2011 loss of about $8.6 billion to $9.1 billion.

Early Wednesday morning Toyota released another recall. This time the recall is affecting 82,200 Toyota vehicles. The vehicles affected are 36,700 Lexus Rx 400h’s and 45,500 Highlander 2007 – 2006 Hybrid SUV’s.

Toyota said the affected vehicles’ hybrid system has a computer board with inadequate soldering that could be damaged during high-load driving. If damage were to occur, the company said the vehicles would either continue to operate under reduced power for a short distance, or coast to a stop.
The automaker said it is working on obtaining replacement parts, and for now will notify owners of possibly faulty vehicles by mid-July. MSNBC

In one of her larger misstatements, Bachmann told an audience that the founding fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery…. Of course, they did not.

This morning, George Stephnanopoulos tired to help her walk that statement back, she didn’t. In fact, she made it worse.

Stephanopoulos: But that’s not what you said. You said that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

Bachmann: Well if you look at one of our Founding Fathers, John Quincy Adams, that’s absolutely true. He was a very young boy when he was with his father serving essentially as his father’s secretary. He tirelessly worked throughout his life to make sure that we did in fact one day eradicate slavery…

Stephanopoulos: He wasn’t one of the Founding Fathers – he was a president, he was a Secretary of State, he was a member of Congress, you’re right he did work to end slavery decades later. But so you are standing by this comment that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery?

Once again, a media organization and one of its puppets had the ‘Spaulding’s’ to invite Jon Stewart on the air and in front of their cameras. Once again, those Spaulding’s were quickly deflated, by the man himself.

This time around, Chris Wallace thought he would be smart and quick enough to get Jon, but Jon is a comedian and a smart one, and he’s very fast on the draw.

They didn’t know what they were getting themselves into when they hired Reggie Brown to come out and do stand up at The Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. Conversely, Reggie Brown didn’t know exactly what he was getting into when he excepted.

Of course both parties thought they would be getting into a night of good ol’ making fun of President Obama between speeches consisting of tearing down President Obama. But it didn’t really go as planned. Obama impersonator Reggie Brown, came on stage and made fun of the President, but he also made fun of the Republican hopefuls, a lot. This did not go over too well with the GOP crowd, not even when Brown turned his attention to the President’s mixed race background. It got so bad that Brown was actually ushered off the stage during his routine.

Yes, this actually happened, and yes, it was caught on tape.

How would you like to wake up and discover that while you slept, a fellow city resident took it upon himself to pee in one of the city reservoirs? Well, that is what happened in Portland, Oregon when a man was caught on tape peeing in the Reservoir system.

Luckily for folks in Portland, security was johnny-on-the-spot, and caught urinator in the act. The Reservoir was immediately shut down and no contaminated water made it to residents.

Here’s a really messed up story to help you start your day. Trevor Harwell of Fullerton California, is a Mac repairman. Recently Trevor was hauled into the Fullerton police station, booked and then released after posting $50,000 bail. His charge? Installing software that takes photos of women while nude and sends them back to him. The discovery was made when a mother noticed that here daughters computer suddenly began showing strange pop-up messages.

Police began investigating when a Fullerton resident complained about suspicious messages appearing on his daughter’s computer last year. Trevor Harwell installed software that took control of computer webcams on his clients’ Mac laptops, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said. He was released later Wednesday after posting $50,000 bond, Goodrich said.

The software sent fake error messages telling users to “fix their internal sensor soon,” and “try putting your laptop near hot steam for several minutes to clean the sensor.” MSNBC

The former ‘La Mirada Christian college’ student installed the software that took the photos and sent them to a remote server, he then downloaded the photos onto his own computer, a computer that police seized and found thousands of photos on.

Trevor Harwell is now facing 12 counts of felony computer access and fraud.

Gee, I sure hope none of the boyfriends of the victims of this pervert know where his hop is…

I’m not here to tell you that this is real or fake, but the clip was pulled from YouTube then allowed back up. The clip in question is a shot of Mars as seen by Google Mars on David Martines computer. Let me also point out that he is using what looks to be Windows XP and IE, those could be playing a part in this.

But if not, this could in fact be something sitting o the Mars surface. Something of a metallic nature and something quite large. NASA for their part says they have looked at the clip and blame the captured image on a solar flare as reproduced by Google’s inferior satellite cameras.

A 12-year old girl called it “creepy’” after a man in his twenties jogged butt-naked through a Kansas City neighborhood, then jumped into a recreational center public pool, still naked. the mother of the 12-year old, Amy Shapiro, caught the unholy event on her cellphone camera. The man was suffering from some form of mental illness and will not be charged for anything after being coaxed out of the pool that was filled with children prior to him jumping in… Butt naked.

It’s not just the fact that Donald Trump ate his Albanian pizza slice with a freakin’ plastic fork no, its the fact that Sarah Palin had the nerve to call it “real New York pizza.”

This battle has been going on for the better part of a decade now. Much like the issue of Climate change and or “Global Warming,” there are two sides at odds with each other. On one side – side A, there are those that say that there is not enough evidence to say that using a cell phone can increase your chances of developing some form of cancer. On the other side – side B, there are those who say, Cell Phones use Nuclear powered batteries in them, continuous human proximity is bound to have a negative effect, its that simple.

When searched deeper it’s easy to discover that much like the climate debate, the side claiming lack of evidence typically has some tie that leads right back to money, in this case, cellular industry money – a multi-billion dollar industry. The other side – Side B, is simply using common sense.

I for one, being an avid smartphone/laptop user, have never for a moment tried to kid myself, I am using a device that is powered by radioactive elements, therefore there is a certain risk undertaken in the usage. How the cellular debate has remained a “debate” for so long, is astoundingly baffling.

But now the World Health Organization is attempting to put an end to the back and forth on this issue.

Until today, the WHO had said that there were no adverse health effects from the use of cell phones. The wireless industry, including the CTIA lobbying group, and the Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Food and Drug Administration have also long maintained that cell phones are safe.
The FCC and CTIA did not respond for comment before publication.
The new determination from the WHO was established at a meeting in France where a team of 31 scientists from 14 countries, including the United States, considered peer-reviewed studies about the safety of cell phones. The team said that it had found enough evidence to consider exposure to cell phone radiation as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”

The issue seems to go quiet and then suddenly return for another round. That within itself should alert anyone with an attention span of more than five-minutes, that there is something very real trying to make its way to the social conscious surface. It’s doubtful that we will stop using our radioactive equipment in their present state, and hopefully smarter minds will figure out how to manage the same feats without the need for radioactive components. But until then, let’s all stop kidding ourselves, our beloved technological achievements are both lifesavers, and potential killers wrapped up in beautiful hardware shells.

Mason the amazing broken leg, tornado thrown dog, has returned. After the devastating tornado that moved through Alabama and destroyed virtually everything in its path. On April 27th, Mason hide from the tornado in the family garage. The storm came and picked the garage up from the ground and sent it sailing, with Mason still inside.

Three weeks later, Mason returned home.

“They’ve not been able to be in alignment so neither one of them have healed, so he had to crawl on two broken legs to get home,” said veterinary Dr. Barbara Benhart.
“This is probably the most dramatic we’ve seen as far as an injury in an animal that’s survived this long,” said Phil Doster, an animal-shelter worker.

There is more destruction to report in the middle of the country. Another tornado has touched down in Oklahoma City. The tornado was thought to be a EF4, it ripped through OK and has left considerable damage. So far, 4 people have been reported killed by the storm.
