In July 2011, Texas Ranger fan Shannon Stone reached out for a ball hit is way. Stone reached too far, fell over the railing and onto the field. The 39-year old fan died on the way to the hospital.

Today it has been announced that the Stone, a firefighter and father of a 6-year old boy, will receive a bronze statue in his honor.

“The statue, which is tentatively to be named Rangers Fans, is expected to be in place for the 2012 season. The full-size bronze statue is likely to be located outside the home plate gate of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.”

The statue will depict Stone and his son at a Rangers game.

A bit more interesting news coming out of the world of high finance. After Warren Buffett announced his desire to see the taxes raised on the nations wealthiest, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz chimes in with a shocker of his own.

The chief coffee pusher wants American companies to begin hiring again and spend some of those billions building up in individual company treasuries. If that was not shocking enough, Schultz is calling for a halt on corporate donations to any and every politician, Republican/Democrat, Congressional and Presidential. The CEO wants a freeze on political donations until the government comes to a bipartisan and fair deal on the debt.

Of course the flexing of that muscle would shine a spotlight on the power and influence corporations have on politicians and politics, but it’s entirely possible that a bit of leeway is given in this case. Voices of influence calling on others of influence to loosen the belt and help the country first, is a light I would like to see more of.

First there was the black Cobra that became a celebrity after escaping its Bronx zoo confinement. When it was found the world rejoiced but its celebrity quickly faded back into obscurity, now its just another snake.

Taking its place is an escaped Peacock that perched itself high up on a swanky New York apartment building. The Peacock got out of the Central Park Zoo and flaunted its good looks to all from a 3rd floor perch of a Fifth Avenue apartment building.

Then, as abruptly as it arrived, the Peacock spread its wings at 6:45am this morning and returned to the Central Park Zoo, unharmed and unchanged by its new celebrity.

Hulu fans and subscribers are about to get a little more than they are used to when it comes to the online streaming service. Hulu will be offering its own original programing, the first of which is with the help of Morgan Spurlock, the maker of “Super Size Me.”

The very first series will be a show that follows famous people around documenting their daily lives.

The company is planing several shows to introduce a Hulu line-up to subscribers. The shows will be limited in budget, but will aim to please the wants of their online audience.

A 14-year old mother in Sao Paulo Brazil, gave birth to a baby girl. The baby was pronounced dead after being born, and the time of this writing there is no word on why the baby girl died.

The baby was sent to the mortuary and the undertaker began preparing the body for burial when the baby girl sudden began to cry. The undertaker rushed the infant to the hospital where surprised doctors placed the baby in intensive care.

UPDATE: Sadly it has been reported that the baby did not survive in intensive care.

10 to 12 training camps will open this Wednesday with camps for all teams up and running by Sunday.

Amy Winehouse, the grammy award winning singer has lost her battle with drug and alcohol abuse today. She was found in her North London home dead from an apparent drug overdose. The singer has battled drug abuse since 2007 and has been in and out of rehab.

She was recently released from her latest stay in rehab, and booed off the stage for a drunken performance in Germany to kick off a new tour. After that performance she quickly put the full tour on hold.

Winehouse was 27 years-old.

Ray Lewis was the latest Marine to publicly ask a celebrity to attend a ball as his date. After the acceptance by Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake to attend Marine Balls as dates of ballsy Marines, other Marines seem to be feeling the celebrity itch.

Sgt. Ray Lewis asked Betty White in a youtube video to be his date to the Marine Ball, and got this as his answer.

Ouch! Not only did Shane Mosley lose badly to Mayweather Jr., then to Pacquiao, but now the man known as Sugar as lost his belts to his now ex-wife.

With the divorce now settled, Mosley’s ex can now claim ownership of three of the former champs belts, which is exactly half his former greatness.

Married and divorced in California, Mosley had to fork over half of everything he owned to ex-wife Jin, which included his championship title belts. The ex will also continue to get half of all earnings from any media created during the time of their marriage. Mosley’s last fight with Pacquiao is exempt because the fight took place after the two were legally separated.

What a way to lose a belt.

Monday saw the state of Arizona engulfed in yet another massive dust storm like the one that covered the Phoenix area on July 5th.

A dust wall 3,000 feet high and moving at speeds gusting up to 40 mph, moved in to the state, bringing traffic to a stand still and delaying flights.

Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch are at this moment, facing Parliament over the phone hacking allegations that are threatening to take down the Murdoch media machine. For their part, the two are denying they had anything to do with, nor had any knowledge of any wrong doing in their company. This is per usual for any CEO of any company.

Putting that aside, the scandal has deeply affected British citizens. Anger over the hacking into the voicemail of a family victimized by the murder of their young daughter, has shocked and appalled the entire country. The evidence of that is quite clear.

Todays hearing have been interrupted by a lone pie-man, who has hit Murdoch with the pie during the News Corp bosses testimony. At the moment, all indications are that the man acted alone, Murdoch is fine, and it may have been a plate filled with shaving cream.

If you live in southern California, the past two weeks were designed to help prepare you for the worst driving experience to hit the LA area since the collapse of the Santa Monica freeway. Every local news program, sig alerts, freeway signs, newspapers and water cooler conversations were filled with the coming horrors that was to be ‘Carmegeddon 2011′.

From midnight July 16th, to midnight July 17th, a ten mile stretch of probably the busiest, most backed up freeway in the entire United States, was shut down for badly needed repairs. Before the clock struck 12:00, just the thought of it made Angelenos dizzy.

However, some of us could not do what we really wanted to do, stay home. Some of us had to brave the streets and go out. For those who had to go out, they found the greatest driving experience ever, or in at least the past twenty-years. Freeways were empty, streets were empty. On a good day, a commute that would take 15 minutes, was done in 8.

Then, the announcement came that work was going far better than expected and the 405 would open head of schedule, and it did. Traffic on Sunday shot up.

But that Saturday, man what a great day to drive in Los Angeles!

July 8th, 2011. this date will go down in history as being the day the last NASA Space Shuttle will leave the ground and head for the stars. Is it the end of American space flight and exploration? Hardly. Flown in the Shuttle Atlantis, the 12-day mission that began at exactly 11:29 a.m. ET, will stock the Space Station with necessary supplies, and involve two separate space walks.

This last mission will retire the entire shuttle fleet and pave the way for NASA built ships capable of breaking Earths orbit, traveling further into deep space, and returning.

39-year-old firefighter, Shannon Stone, fell to his death Thursday afternoon while trying to catch a foul ball struck into the stands in Arlington, Texas.

Stone went over the rail and fell 20 feet behind the left field wall. The firefighter was immediately rushed to the hospital where he later died from head injuries. Before leaving for the hospital on a stretcher, Stone asked the paramedics to find his 6-year old son who was still up in the stands, alone.

The is the second fall from the same stands in a year. last year, another man fell 30 feet, but survived his injuries.

41-year old Jesse William Burley, had in is possession, a few fireworks with the warning written on its side:

A friend told authorities that Burley was pleased with his fireworks that he intended to set off for the streets fourth of July fireworks fun. The friend claims that after seeing the warning label, he wanted nothing to do with the fireworks that the local ATF are now looking into for legal status.

However, that stated consternation didn’t stop Burley from setting the fireworks in the middle of the street, lighting them, and promptly having his head severed from his body seconds later from the impact of the explosion. The same friend, Chris Hanson, was the first to reach Burley after the explosion and find his body chard and headless.

Portland, Oregon resident Darryl James Swanson, has been arrested by the Secret Service and is now undergoing psych evaluation to determine if he is mentally competent. Darryl Swanson has been sending letters to several different agencies, threatening the life of the President and his family.

The 45-year old man will be arraigned next month, but is being held because he is considered to be a flight risk.

It seems the final straw was after Darryl Swanson left this message on the answering machine of the Seattle AP bureau.

“I may have to get in touch with al-Qaida and get a hold of at least one, possibly two good working machine guns and blast my way into the White House,”

Darryl is angry with the President for not sending him his $70 million check that he claims is his trust fund money set up for him when he was a child.

Friends of the would be assassin say the he is harmless, needs to be kept on his meds and watched.

Yikes! Arizonians awoke this morning to a horrifying 50-mile wide, and 1-mile high dust storm rapidly moving through the state. It is believed that 60MPH winds helped push the dust cloud over the city of Phoenix which found itself being blanketed late Tuesday night.

Residents woke to a city cover in dust, more than usual. The Storm that pushed the mile high dust cloud, covered skyscrapers, grounded flights, knocked out power and sent the emergency phone lines into overdrive.

If you are one of the millions that can actually remember going to see Duran Duran back in the 80′s, then you may remember the feeling that the vocals on stage didn’t match the vocals on the albums. However, much to his credit, Simon Le Bon, worked at it and became a much better singer, gaining control over his vocal cords with strength training. Trying to hit those New Romantic high notes night after night can be a strenuous task, and it looks as though it is still a daunting one for the English singer because the latest Duran Duran tour has been canceled due to it.

Front man Simon Le Bon is having problems with his voice and has been advised to give his vocal cords a rest, effectively ending a tour that was to begin next week and continue on through September.

Responding to cries of “Please, please tell me now” Le Bon, had this to say:

“I am doing everything I can to work through this and get back on track as soon as possible.”

Don’t you just love when life imitates art? Twenty or so years ago when Sting sat down and wrote the phrase “Man in a suitcase” he had no idea that one day a lady in Mexico would try to take her husband home in one, literally creating a “Man in a suitcase”.

That was the case in Chetumal, Mexico, when a common-law-wife came to visit her convict husband Juan Ramirez Tijerina. Maria del Mar Arjona, had her scheduled conjigal visit with Tijerna, but when they were finished and it was time for her to leave, prison authorities discovered her suitcase was larger and heavier than when she came.

When open, authorities discovered Tijerina naked, laying in a fetal position inside the suitcase.

Mark Halprin, an editor for Time Magazine, contributor to MSNBC and clearly a right leaning journalist, called the President of the United States a ‘D*%k on Joe Scarborough’s ‘Morning Joe’ this morning. I would like to point out that nothing ike this was ever said about G.W.Bush or Dick Cheney, even after he shot a “friend” in the face.

Halperin has been suspended from his commentating duties at the network after making the huge gaffe, and has issued an apology.

I completely agree with everything in MSNBC’s statement about my remark. I believe that the step they are taking in response is totally appropriate. Again, I want to offer a heartfelt and profound apology to the President, to my MSNBC colleagues, and to the viewers. My remark was unacceptable, and I deeply regret it.

Halperirn was referring to the statement issued by MSNBC after his suspension.

Mark Halperin’s comments this morning were completely inappropriate and unacceptable. We apologize to the President, The White House and all of our viewers. We strive for a high level of discourse and comments like these have no place on our air. Therefore, Mark will be suspended indefinitely from his role as an analyst.

According to the NATIONAL ENQUIRER, the married father of two boys and undercover journalist, Chris Hansen, has been the subject of the Enquirer’s hidden cameras in Florida. According to the grocery store mag, Hansen has been carrying on an affair with Kristyn Caddell, a reporter for WPTV in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The mag claims the “To Catch A Predator” host has been cheating on his wife with the reporter for four months, and that they have the photos and footage to prove it.

But I have to question the motive of a company or individual that would go after a guy that has spent his life going after scum who prey on children, then try and make a moral equivalent between pedophiles and a guy cheating on his wife with an adult woman.

President Obama came out this morning and gave a Press Conference where he spoke about the need for bi-partizan deals to help Americans get back to work. The President also spoke about the need to take care of the Debt Ceiling, Medicare and raising taxes on the wealthiest 1% of the country, oil and hedge fund companies.

Wow, we continue on living in bizzaro world, a world in which Tiger Woods can no longer dominate a golf course, and Roger Federer can no dominate the tennis court. After losing his grand slam championship bid at the French Open to Rafael Nadal, Roger Came to Eastbourne ready to reclaim his magic. The Swiss tennis superstar and 6-time Wimbledon Champ, went through the early rounds of the Grand Slam tournament in true Federer style. Then he stood across the net from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Quarterfinals.

In typical fashion, Federer took the first two games from Tsonga with ease, but then in the 3rd set, the 12th seeded Frenchman took the game to Federer and ultimately won the match 3-6, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4., stunning Federer and tennis fans in attendance.

Bank of America becomes the first and only of the so-called ‘Too big to fail’ institutions to payout for its part in the near collapse of the American economy. The bank has agreed to a settlement of $8.5 billion to be paid out to investors that lost their money in mortgage-backed securities – securities Bofa claimed inheritance of after the purchase of the doomed lender, Countrywide.

“This is another important step we are taking in the interest of our shareholders to minimize the impact of future economic uncertainty and put legacy issues behind us. We will continue to act aggressively, and in the best interest of our shareholders, to clean up the mortgage issues largely stemming from our purchase of Countrywide.”

Bank Of America will post a Q2 2011 loss of about $8.6 billion to $9.1 billion.

Early Wednesday morning Toyota released another recall. This time the recall is affecting 82,200 Toyota vehicles. The vehicles affected are 36,700 Lexus Rx 400h’s and 45,500 Highlander 2007 – 2006 Hybrid SUV’s.

Toyota said the affected vehicles’ hybrid system has a computer board with inadequate soldering that could be damaged during high-load driving. If damage were to occur, the company said the vehicles would either continue to operate under reduced power for a short distance, or coast to a stop.
The automaker said it is working on obtaining replacement parts, and for now will notify owners of possibly faulty vehicles by mid-July. MSNBC

Toyota, like many Japanese companies, is working hard at recovering from the devastating tsunami and earthquake that destroyed much of the country’s southern coast. News like this is not helping Toyota’s recovery.

For some reason, Republican candidates love Rock & Roll, and love to use great songs on their campaigns. Unfortunately the writers of those great songs tend to not like having their songs used in Political campaigns.

For the second time since 2000, Tom Petty has found himself singing for the aspirations of a Republican candidate hoping to become the President of the United States. The first time around it was “Won’t Back Down” for the then candidate George W. Bush, this time around its “American Girl” for Michele Bachmann. On both occasions Tom Petty had to fire off a cease-and-desist letter, demanding the end of the use of his music.

Oddly, Ted Nugent tunes never seem to make the cut for campaigning Republican hopefuls, but they love to pull him when trying to show how ‘hip’ they are.

Through the course of her run to be the president of the United States, one trigger finger away from Nuclear bombs and chief negotiator on our behalf to leaders around the world, Michele Bachmann will demonstrate what many of us have already known for a few years now.

In one of her larger misstatements, Bachmann told an audience that the founding fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery…. Of course, they did not.

This morning, George Stephnanopoulos tired to help her walk that statement back, she didn’t. In fact, she made it worse.

Stephanopoulos: But that’s not what you said. You said that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

Bachmann: Well if you look at one of our Founding Fathers, John Quincy Adams, that’s absolutely true. He was a very young boy when he was with his father serving essentially as his father’s secretary. He tirelessly worked throughout his life to make sure that we did in fact one day eradicate slavery…
