Same bat time, same bat channel, but for some reason it’s always comforting to know that it’s there. Apple has announced it’s annual WWDC this year, to be held for five days starting June 6th. This year team Apple is promising to deliver the ‘the Future Of iOS and MacOSX.’ If that sounds boring to you, just remember the iPhone 4 was introduced at WWDC last year. The rumor mill is rollin’ now folks! The Wall Street Journal says they have the deets on the second coming of the iPad, also known as the iPad2. Word is the newest one will be thinner and lighter than the first iPad. Sure, you’re an (i) device owner and follower so you know every second gen Apple device gets thinner and lighter, so you’re not shocked.

Actually, you probably wont be shocked to find out that the iPad2 will have a faster processor and a front side camera, but you may be disappointed to learn that the screen resolution wont be any better and there is still no Flash included, it wont even be an option.

There is no word on how much the new iPad will be, but typically the second gen also comes with a slight price drop.

So far my decision to wait for the second generation iPad, is leading me to wait for the 3rd. or maybe I’ll just go with one of the new Android tablets coming this year.

So you can’t wait to get your key tapping mitts on the new app store for Mac applications right? Well for your sake I hope your running Snow Leopard, because if you’ve decided to leave the Intel systems to the ‘newbies’ because’ your an old schooler, you’ll have to get your apps the hard way, surf for it.

Apple has announced the official opening of the Mac App Store on January 6th 2011. On that day Mac owners can begin shopping for paid and free applications from the comfort of a single AppStore like hub when the application arrives as a free download on the 6th. Users will also be able to use their AppleID accounts for purchases. But again, anyone using 10.5 or less will be outside looking in.

Yes you guess it folks, the Beatles have found their way into the iTunes Store. That was the big news that would change your life, forever. Has it changed? Your life? Awww, come on give it a chance.

Actually it is great news for music fans, in particular those fans that have not yet experienced the Beatles catalog, and those who are serious fans. Now all those great Beatles (Apple) tunes will be available via digital downloading through Apple, bringing the whole thing together through synergy at long last.

For the rest of this year, Apple has also included the “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964″ video for you to stream, for free. But if you want to download the entire Beatles box set with all the LP fixens’, get your $150 ready and block out an entire day.

Enough with the devs and the talk of what it will do, it’s time to get it done. Looks like this is the week that it’ll get done as word on the Apple street is saying that iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch will be large and in charge by this Friday. Some reports are saying the update will come as early as tomorrow, Thursday, but consensus brings it in on Friday. Whichever the actual day it lands on, (i) devices holders will be looking at improvements and additions to their favorite (i) device. And that ain’t all folks. Word also has it the the MacOSX is headed for a software update as well as iTunes. However, that little nugget known as ‘Airprint’ wont be included in this particular round of ups.

Good news one and all, Skyfire is back in the AppStore! That’s of course assuming that you are one of the quick and lucky. You may remember last week when Skyfire announced it’s answer to all of your mobile Safari Flash video woes, with its new and improved browser that handles Flash content for you. Many people heard the news and their servers crashed, causing Apple to pull the app.

Skyfire is now saying that the problem is fixed, sorta. The app is now up in the U.S., store on a first come first serve basis.

If you thought you had a secret love affair with your iPhone, a tabooed love that you could never share with the world, go ahead and let it out because others do too. Turns out the little phone that Steve made is now the number one smartphone in America, and that’s with it being on one carrier folks. Apple now has an impressive 17% world market share, taking the bet to RIM which saw it’s Blackberry line get beaten for the first time in years. RIM sits at around 15%.

But in the U.S, Apple’s iPhone came on even stronger and took a 26% share, trouncing RIM which sits at 24.2%. Steve isn’t the only who gets bragging rights though. According to the new Canalys’ findings, Android is the big winner when it comes to OS choice. The system that Google made now has a 43.6% U.S, market share.

Palm and WebOS don’t even really register, while Microsoft sits at a 3.0% market share. These finding from Canalys’ are pretty remarkable when you consider the fact that the iPhone is on one U.S., carrier and Android is basically a brand new OS. This also shows the fact that RIM needs to step up their game. BB OS6 and form factors that have not really changed in 5 years aren’t going to cut it anymore.

Microsoft has officially announced their brand new office suite for Mac owners. All of your old favorites are there, Word, Powerpoint, and now Outlook instead of Entourage.

The pack starts at around $150 for the student/home and jumps to about $280 for home/business. Or, you could just get acquited with Google apps, use Google Docs, gmail and the rest for absolutely no cost at all. But hey, that’s up to you.

The software is still in beta form, but stable enough for Apple to feel comfortable to let it out for early adopters to give it a try. Users will need to have a Apple ID, email account and run Mac OS X v10.6.4 Snow Leopard or later.

If Steve Jobs was looking for a way to compete with his very own iPad, I think he did it. At today’s ‘Back To Mac’ event, among a few other entries like a new OS, OS Lion” coming in the summer of 2011, and ‘Facetime’ for the MacOSX, now available in beta form, Steve introduces the latest big gun in a small package. The new and improved ‘MacBook Air’ is so thin that you may forget you’re holding it, and you’re gonna want to hold it.

All the same features are still there like instant on, but they have all been greatly improved with better battery life and a seriously long stand-by time. Steve says you can leave it in stand-by mode for up to 30 days. It’s not just the Apple Store that has had it hard today, AT&T is feeling the desire as well. The rush to receive an iPhoe without the hassle of waiting in line on launch day, has put the Apple Store in the slow lane, with the occasional crashes. Apple put up a notice informing pre-order hunters that AT&T is taking pre-orders as well, apparently folks got the message because AT&T is now saying they are sold out of pre-order, pre-orders.

“Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We’ll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24.”

Yeah, you tried but it looks like those lines will be unavoidable. then again, you could wait until the 25th and sit through a grueling day of watching others enjoy their iPhone 4′s.

AT&T has been making a few mass apologies as of late. First they were forced to apologize to their customers for threatening law suits on any customer who complained too much, or once. And now this. Last week AT&T famously let the cat out of the bag for over 114,000 iPad 3G toting customers, through a hole that was spotted and seized upon by dastardly hackers.

People as high up as members of the White House staff were effected by having their personal information being breached. But AT&T says that it’s all better now and you can all get back to work and play. Sorry, sorry about the whole security breach thingy, that, went on there…. those meanie hackers they… sorry.

Sure, it can happen to the best of us, all of us actually. But with a company like AT&T and your personal private info, I would think something other than a lonely “Sorry” would be much, much more appropriate.

Dear Valued AT&T Customer,

Recently there was an issue that affected some of our customers with AT&T 3G service for iPad resulting in the release of their customer email addresses. I am writing to let you know that no other information was exposed and the matter has been resolved. We apologize for the incident and any inconvenience it may have caused. Rest assured, you can continue to use your AT&T 3G service on your iPad with confidence.

Here’s some additional detail:

On June 7 we learned that unauthorized computer “hackers” maliciously exploited a function designed to make your iPad log-in process faster by pre-populating an AT&T authentication page with the email address you used to register your iPad for 3G service. The self-described hackers wrote software code to randomly generate numbers that mimicked serial numbers of the AT&T SIM card for iPad – called the integrated circuit card identification (ICC-ID) – and repeatedly queried an AT&T web address. When a number generated by the hackers matched an actual ICC-ID, the authentication page log-in screen was returned to the hackers with the email address associated with the ICC-ID already populated on the log-in screen.

The hackers deliberately went to great efforts with a random program to extract possible ICC-IDs and capture customer email addresses. They then put together a list of these emails and distributed it for their own publicity.

As soon as we became aware of this situation, we took swift action to prevent any further unauthorized exposure of customer email addresses. Within hours, AT&T disabled the mechanism that automatically populated the email address. Now, the authentication page log-in screen requires the user to enter both their email address and their password.

I want to assure you that the email address and ICC-ID were the only information that was accessible. Your password, account information, the contents of your email, and any other personal information were never at risk. The hackers never had access to AT&T communications or data networks, or your iPad. AT&T 3G service for other mobile devices was not affected.

While the attack was limited to email address and ICC-ID data, we encourage you to be alert to scams that could attempt to use this information to obtain other data or send you unwanted email. You can learn more about phishing by visiting the AT&T website.

AT&T takes your privacy seriously and does not tolerate unauthorized access to its customers’ information or company websites. We will cooperate with law enforcement in any investigation of unauthorized system access and to prosecute violators to the fullest extent of the law.

What came first, the iPhone or the iPad? This is the question that has been plaguing human kind since the begin….of iPad sells… and only a few people care. Since you’re here you’re probably one of the few that care, and for you luck has come your way. Steve sat down with uncle Walt and talked iPhone, iPad, Adobe and the future, and with no Bill Gates this time around, the D8 conference attendees got the chance to listen to Stevie-poo talk openly about that whole “stolen iPhone’ fiasco.

Ouch! Not everyone is bending over backwards to get on the iPad. Dire, you can read the New York Times on your trusty iPad, but just try and get to the goods that Time Warner and NBC have waiting to be viewed online. Steve’s stance on Flash isn’t swaying the two companies into going his way. Time Warner and NBC see a handful of tablets coming down the pike, and all of them will come with Flash meaning the bank of entertainment from each company will have a place(s) to shine sans the iPad.

This could be a huge blow to Apple, but me thinks Steve could care less, that is unless he sees less ($) when other tablets come online.

For all those around the country who have lost or given up the option to use plastic, Diane Campbell is now your best friend. That is, if you’re looking to buy yourself an iPad. After the iPhone went on sale Apple imposed a ‘cash only’ policy to stop folks from buying a ton of devices and then selling them. Good for Apple, bad for anyone without plastic, and yes, they do exists. Diane Campbell for example. Diane made the headlines earlier this week because she worked and saved up her money to buy an iPad. She went into the Apple store, picked it out, plopped down her cash and was promptly told, ‘sorry, no cash, only credit.

This outraged enough people that Apple heard it loud and clear. So, thanks to Diane Campbell, the rule is now changed, you can buy with cash but you must set up your account in-store.

For years now Mark/Space has been synonymous with the MacOSX. Lately the company has been branching out to include Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile in it’s device syncing, widening it’s reach beyond the Palm community, now that embracing of Microsoft’s mobile software is really paying off for the company.

Microsoft has named Mark/Space as the official software for Kin MacOSX syncing, meaning if you have a Mac and buy a KIN, you’ll need MissingSync from Mark/Space to keep the two in sync.

It’s happened folks, and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer Pad. The iPad is now over the one million sold mark with the help of the Wifi 3G version. The sales of the first big hit tablet PC that’s not really a tablet and can’t play videos that use Adobe Flash (which is damn near all of them), have now outpaced the sales of the first generation iPhone. My only hope is that all of you early adopters aren’t too angry after the second version is release in about 11 months. Because the second version is going to be great!

But then, all those who bought the second version are really going to be bummed when that 3rd generation iPad hits in about 22 months. And so on, and so on…..

That Spirit jailbreak you’ve been hearing about for the WiFi iPad is now available. I can’t say that it’s going to absolutely get you those ABC streaming clips you really must watch, but it’s a step in the right direction. Make sure you are running 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2 on your Apple iPad. This is still in the world of beta so be careful if your precious. Don’t do it if you’re not 100% sure it’s a plunge you want to take.

What’s Spirit?
Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)

Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.

Sure, if your goal in getting a iPhone is so that you can download porn all day, something is seriously wrong in your social life. But I am still of the belief that that is your right as an age of consent American, no matter how sad it is. So the whole social policing by Apple on the new hot products is a bit over the top in my view.

However, it is Apple’s right to install policy on their products. All that aside, Jobsy-poo has been hitting the keypad a lot as of late, firing off emails to concerned consumers who have taken the time to write Jobs personally. Most of the time we would praise personally answered queries from a huge CEO. But some of Steve’s replies are harsh. I’m not sure where to categorize this one, but to answer a porn query from a consumer, Steve suggested that Android is the way to go if you want porn on your device.

It’s actually kinda funny.

But, Steve did admit in the same email that Apple was wrong to reject the satirical app from cartoonist Mark Fiore, (a Pulitzer-winner) saying that the app would in fact be in the AppStore soon.

Those of you who simply must have your porn dose, now you know what to do.

If you were among those caught up in the big delay when you pre-ordered your iPad with 3G included, it looks as though you will still see your precious on the doorstep some time late this month (April). But for those just climbing onto the bandwagon, you may want to note that the 3G WiFi version of Apple’s latest can be pre-ordered and received somewhere around the May 7th calendar date.

So, If you’re so inclined, get ready to give AT&T more of your hard earned money.

Okay, so there was this device that was found over the weekend and some thought it to be the new iPhone 4G.  I wanted to reserve judgment until someone could verify its validity.  Well, it looks like it’s been verified.  What you are lookig at is the prototype for the brand new iPhone 4G to be released this June.

As you can see, it’s decidedly more square than its predecessors.  But that’s not all, there are a host of new features to the hardware, that when coupled with the new iPhone OS 4.0, will make this hands down the best iPhone ever.

What’s new

• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s changed

• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Not much to talk about here, but it looks as though there could be some Proof of life when it comes to the fabled appearance of the iPhone on the Verizon network. According to this little slide you’re gazing at, an app is being tested on the iPhone across carriers, and yes, that’s Verizon at the bottom of the list.

Of course at this time, there is no way to conclusively say this means a single thing, but it sure is fun to continue the speculation.

Oh my!! Big, big changes are coming to the iPhone, changes that card carrying iPhone users have been screaming for since an hour after it’s first launch.

Steve Jobs took the stage today to give a sneak preview of what’s to come in the new iPhone 4.0 release. After a lot of blah blah about apps and market-share, how much the iPhone is eating up the internet and who has praised the new iPad, Jobsie poo got down to business.

But all that pales to the inclusion on “MULTITASKING!!!” This is going to be sweet! It works like “Dock” basically. The user simply double taps the “Home” button and a icon list of open apps pops up, giving the users the choice of what app to quickly switch back to. Steve says this addition took so long because they wanted to do it right. Apple wanted to ensure that users did not feel lag and lose battery life due to a ton of open apps., something Palm Pre and HTC Sense UI Android users can attest to.

The new API will allow for continuous play in streaming apps like “Pandora” and now….leaving Skype won’t kick offline! The new API allows Skype users or any “VoIP” user to stay connected, chatting away while looking through emails or photo albums or whatever the kids are doing these days.

Users will be able to keep GPS apps open in the background while preforming other task as well. Plus, Apple ensures that privacy is of utmost importance. Any app that is looking for users info, such as ‘Location,’ will have to notify the user with a prompt on the screen.

Then there is “Folders” this I’m really going to like. Not only will users be able to create and use background wallpapers for the iPhone screen, but with iPhone 4.0, users will also be able to create folders that house apps, so less screen flicking will be needed. Just hold down an icon, prompt pops up and users then create a folder to house apps, like a “Games Folder” to house all user games. Sweet.

Mail: In iPhone 4.0, all mail can be unified into one box, and users will be able to enjoy the use of several “Exchange” accounts, “Exchange Server 2010, and new VPN options.”

iBooks: iPad owners won’t be the only ones getting in on that sweet iBook goodness. iPhone OS 4.0 will bring the upper class eReader to the iPhone, with access to the iBook Store and graphics like it’s larger brother, the iPad.

Oh, how about this!? You know that little thing called Xbox Live? Will now Apple has it’s own version for the iPhone/iPod Touch. “Social Gaming Network” will allow users the ability to go online and play against friends (or enemies), keep score and all those other things serious gamers love to do.

So that is a few of the bigger points included in the 100 new features set to arrive this summer in the new iPhone 4.0 OS. At the moment it looks as though iPhone 3GS and 3rd Gen iPod Touch owners will be the only users able to take advantage of the new multitasking capabilities. I hope that is not the case because it seems a shame to exclude 3G and even 1st gen owners out of the best thing to come to the iPhone since….well since the iPhone.

After taking a look at what Apple will deliver to it’s iPhone faithful, I think that it’s safe to safe that the other OS’s out there could very well be in a world of hurt. A lot of those blaring holes have just been filled on a device that is already seriously popular.

Ahh the ever watchful eye of Apple strikes again. For the technological life of me, I can’t figure out why Apple has decided to become the Christian police for owners of the newest Apple goods. The company that I have loved for more years than I can remember is slowly turning into a Sunday church that makes useful devices.

As every iPhone and iPod Touch owner is aware already, the App Store has come down hard on anything that is of the racy adult nature. So anyone 18 years of age or older can no longer have a choice in a free marketplace to view material deemed ‘Legal’ by US law. This is because Apple has deemed it ‘illegal’ on Apple devices. Yes, I’m talking about porn. Like it or not, it’s legal and some folks would like to view it in it’s many different forms, some of which is just silly humor. But it doesn’t stop at porn. Apple’s filtering is so stringent that even classic literature is effected.

Take the classic novel Moby Dick, a story about a man and his quest to conquer, capture and kill a ‘sperm whale.’ As you can see from the image above, the iPad’s filtering takes issue with the word sperm.

This is dangerous and totally ridiculous. And in fact, it must be stopped.

Apple seems to be on a roll right now. The iPad was released over the weekend to rave reviews. Early reports of sales estimates far beat what most analyst predicted, and suddenly that company that made the iPhone and changed smartphones forever, is now the company that makes the iPad.

But Steve doesn’t want anyone to forget about his first world changing love, so he is calling on some of the lucky to meet him in Cupertino for a little sneak peek at what’s to come in iPhone OS 4.0 on April 8th.

Sure, you get ta emailing now by going to gmail.com, where you’ll get a experimental interface on your iPad or other tablet computing device. If you go to gmail.com in your browser, you’ll see something different than what you’re used to on the desktop. We’re releasing an experimental user interface for the iPad built on the Gmail for mobile HTML5 web app that we launched last year for the iPhone and Android devices. Those devices have large screens compared to other phones, and tablets like the iPad give us even more room to innovate. To take advantage of the iPad’s large display, we’ve created a two-pane view with your list of conversations on the left and messages to the right.

To try this new interface, go to gmail.com in your browser. We recommend adding a homescreen link for easy access. As this interface is experimental, expect changes as we continue to develop and optimize. Also, please let us know any ideas or feedback that you have. You can also access Gmail on the iPad through the native Mail app using the IMAP protocol.

Additionally, the iPad ships with a number of Google services pre-installed. As with Mac computers and the iPhone, you’ll find Google Search in the top right corner of Safari. As you use Google’s web-based applications on iPad, you’ll notice that you sometimes see the desktop user interface and other times you see the mobile interface. We’ve evaluated the behavior of each Google web app using the iPad Simulator, and we are serving the interface we feel works best. In case you are wondering, no, I didn’t get an iPad. I make it a habit of staying away from first generation Apple products. But this guy, this guy waited in line, got himself a few and then decided he just needed some internet fame. So he smashed one with a baseball bat. He could have given it to someone and made that person very, very happy. Think of the karma he would have built up. Instead he spent a bunch of money, cash that could have gone to feed sick or homeless children. He took that cash, bought an iPad, then went out back and smashed it with a bat.

I must say, after this piece, I’m not sure Apple will continue to keep Colbert in the “fav” category. Don’t get me wrong, Stephen sings praises and is genuinely happy to have his iPad, but he also does something that just looks wrong, very wrong. Colbert also puts a hurtin’ o the Kindle, if you own a Kindle or work for Amazon, this is going to sting.

David Letterman has a iPad! That’s right, the late night host has himself an iPad and he’s not afraid to use it, or lick it. Yeah that’s right, he lick it before handing out the “Top Ten Questions to Ask Yourself Before Waiting in Line for the iPad.”

Amazon has been promising a Kindle app for Mac for quite some time, and low and behold, they’ve finally delivered. If you’re still using Tiger you might as well move along because the app is only for Intel based Macs. But if you’re a fun lovin’ Leopard runnin’ reading machine that has been waiting for this, get on over there and start downloading.

I have been a staunch Apple fanboy since the early 90′s, and I am happy that Apple is now on the tongues of computer users around the globe. But I have to admit, the company is really beginning to lose it. The restrictions that are being placed on products and applications is getting sickening. Apple is truly on their way to surpassing Microsoft ad becoming the “China of the computing world.”

In fact, I am sure that Apple is turning off just has many fans as they actually gain daily, keeping the growth from truly blowing up. The whole “explicit content” thing is really F’d-up. Purging thousands of apps simply because breast are shown, on a device with parental controls installed for just that very reason, is disgusting, sad and…wait…could it be, censorship.

From the company that brought you, shake a girl naked, Bild’s “Shake the Bild Girl”, comes a possible good fight. The German company looks ready to fight Apple on the merits of censorship.

Each month, subscribers to the Bild magazine and or the “Shake the Bild Girl” get treated to a little nakedness on their “Paid, subscriptions fee” based app. But Apple said nope, no more nipples, please, you remove.

No word has come from Apple as of yet as it pertains to this particular fight, but I am very interested in what they have to say. Funny how life is isn’t? The last company one would expect to become closed minded, is always the first to close the door.

Did anyone catch this!? Everyones favorite tablet to love/hate made it’s first TV appearance during the Oscars. If you missed it, check it out.

The date of the official release of the iPad has been pushed back a little, just a little. Now anyone dying to get their hands on the the Tablet that Steve made will have to wait until April 3rd. But all can keep themselves busy and calm by pre-ordering this coming March 12th. But that’s only for the non-3G models. If you want the 3G model you’ll have to wait another week or so.

The specific reason for the delay was not given by Apple, and although I am sure that most are hoping it’s because Steve suddenly decided to include Flash, just no, that’s not the case. The reason is most likely a components issue with the Taiwan-based supplier.

Yep, that’s right. In Apple’s quest to become more like Microsoft, or, Applesoft, or dare I say….Microapple? You choose, they’re all beginning to fit nicely. Apple has filed a lawsuit against HTC for at least “20″ copyright infringements.

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

No word yet on what exactly Steve is laying claim to, but we’ll all know soon enough. I get the feeling that this is going to be one of those closely watched lawsuits.
